Why we use... Elinchrom's Ranger Quadra Pack

Posted by Miriam Howell on 14/01/2011

After many years of lugging heavy location lighting equipment this kit launched by Elinchrom in February 2009 was a breath of fresh air. It has revolutionized the way we work and has prevented back injury in the process!

Shooting on location with studio flash is very popular in all kinds of photography. Anyone who has used so-called portable studio flash systems will know that these units can be far from portable. With battery packs resembling a something you’d usually find under a car bonnet and weighing upwards of 5kg, you’d need strong arms to carry them between jobs. The Elinchrom’s Ranger Quadra, with a battery pack and control unit weighing just 3kgs (roughly 21x15x6cm in size), has eliminated this weighty issue. The battery pack can drive two tiny but powerful flash heads with highly controllable asymmetric output. The whole thing fits into a case the size of a large brief case, which you can take with you anywhere even as hand luggage on the plane.

For us the biggest advantage with this fantastic piece of kit is the compact size and the fact that it is so light. Beyond this we have always appreciated the quality of lights Elinchrom produce, and this is no exception.
